Karolina Jablonska (b. 1991), lives and works in Krakow, Poland. The artist is inspired by the works of the Greats like Caravaggio, Tiziano, and Renaissance Netherlands masters but also others from the XX century. Jablonska explores dark sides of the self - unfiltered and without sweetened emotions, representing the complexity of tortured minds through dark colours and painful expressions.
“I create paintings that depict me engaged in everyday activities - bathing, eating, drawing, contemplating - within the confines of my own home. To emphasize emotional darkness, the paintings are mostly limited to a narrow range of color and contrast. While the figure is engaged in otherwise pleasant activities, the feeling throughout is one of anxiety,” commented Jablonska.
