“This series of friends, lovers, and past selves began as a portrait of my oldest friend Andi. While painting her, I realized my hand wanted to remember her as a child. For me, the painting oscillates between her face now and my first memory of her. I think painting has the ability to shape-shift over time. I love the idea that paintings have room to grow once they’re made, because as we age with them, we start to see things differently. In twenty years, I will be able to see every version of her,” - Caroline Absher.
